The Outpost Lodge

Just south of the Arctic circle, in the peaceful village of Mårdsel, is our guesthouse The Outpost Lodge. Once a quaint post office and now a cosy winter hideaway, here you can appreciate the true serenity of the north and make yourself at home after an Arctic adventure. With numerous northern lights sightings from the doorstep, The Outpost is perfect for spending fireside evenings around the dinner table and taking turns looking out for the aurora.

A 1.5 hour car journey from Luleå airport, or a 45 minute drive from Aurora Safari Camp, we often encourage guests to complement their winter stays at the camp with a night or two at The Outpost, especially if crossing the Arctic Circle is on their bucket list.

Mårdsel and the surrounding wilderness are a great opportunity to try out our snowshoes, Nordic skis and kicksleds. With a population of six locals, this is a unique opportunity to experience life in a remote Arctic village, where the Swedish values in cooking and hospitality are as important as getting out into nature.
